At the end of each semester, some of our students leave SAS. We have developed a process to assist transferring student files.
First, I send a mail merged letter to families with the directions to follow if they would like me to transfer their child's files to a new Gmail account.
If the families respond, my next step is to meet with the students to clean up their files. This slideshow shows the steps we follow.
Since Google just released updates to their iPad apps, Google products are a bit dodgy at the moment. As a result, rather than upload their photos directly to their new Picasa Web account, students emailed the photos to their new email address.
Students varied wildly in what they wanted to keep. Some students deleted almost everything. Others spent a long time carefully choosing which photos, emails and documents were worth keeping.
My next steps will be to complete the following tasks.

My next steps will be to complete the following tasks.
- Download their Google Drive files and then upload them into their new Google Drive account.
- Transfer ownership of their blog to their new Gmail address.
- Transfer their iTunes account to their new email address and password and change the security questions.
- Inform the student, parents and classroom teacher when the transfers are complete.
Last spring my work transferring files and accounts this took approximately 60 minutes per student. This time, since students cleaned up their files ahead of time, I am anticipating this to take only 20-30 minutes per student.
