Grade 5 students completed a fun activity to put themselves in American Colonial Dress. The activity introduced them to a number of image editing tools as well as image search techniques.
American Colonial Dress
- Open the email from me inviting you to collaborate
- Click on the G5XXXXPhotos folder
- Click Add to Drive
- Click Open in Drive
- Switch to Grid so you can see the images rather than just the filename
- Choose your photo
- Right click (or hold down the control key and click) and click on your photo
- Choose Download
- Open a new tab
- Do an image search for american colonial dress
- Refine your search to obtain an image of a person with your given occupation.
- Search for an image you like
- Ensure you are viewing the image and not the thumbnail
- Right click (or hold down the control key and click) and Copy Image
- Return to your Google Drive
- Select ti 5XXXX Gr5 Drop folder
- Create a new Drawing
- From the Edit menu choose Paste
- Name your Drawing
- Click Browse
- Navigate to your Downloads folder
- Choose your photo
- Click Open
- Your photo will probably be a little large so click Resize Image
- Grab a corner handle and drag in to make your photo smaller
- Click Resize Image
- Choose the Crop Image tool
- Drag a selection box around your head
- Click Crop
- Choose the Eraser tool
- Erase your neck
- Click Apply
- From the Edit menu choose Transparent
- Click on the white background
It should become a checker board - Right click (or hold down the control key and click) and Copy Image
- Return to your Google Drawing
- From the Edit menu choose Paste
- Move your head into place
- Resize your head necessary
Use a corner handle - Rotate your head if necessary
Use the top dot to rotate - Flip your head if necessary
Arrange > Rotate > Flip Horizontally
